Coronavis Vaccine (covid vaccine)
18/12/2020
Coronavis Vaccine (covid vaccine)
Following extensive trials, the first safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine has been approved in the UK and is now available to priority groups.

Vaccinations are being delivered according to priority groups identified by the Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). The vaccinations may not take place at your GP practice, but rather a local vaccination service (led by GPs, practice nurses and community pharmacists) who are responsible for delivering the vaccine to people in your community.

When it is the right time for you to receive your vaccination, you will receive an invitation to come forward.

This may be via the phone, or through a letter either from your GP or the national booking system.

We know lots of people will be eager to get protected but we are asking people not to contact us to get an appointment as you will not be able to get one until you are contacted.

Face Coverings
21/07/2020
Face Coverings
The Practice team would ask all patients and visitors to wear a face covering when visiting the practice.  This is to to help stop the spread of the virus.  If a person comes in who is suffering from coronavirus (and they may not be aware of this themselves) then a face covering will provide some protection.  The face covering should be covering your mouth and nose for this to be effective.

You will also be asked to use hand sanitiser on arrival and given gloves to wear during your appointment.

Please be aware that from 24.07.2020 all shops require people to wear face coverings as per government guidance, as we are in Eldon Square this rule should be followed when visiting the centre and the practice.

Repeat Prescribing
27/05/2020
Repeat Prescribing
In line with the practice policy we will from now on be prescribing in maximum durations of 2 months  for medications.  There are some cases that can be granted exceptions with longer duration terms, if clinically neccesary and this can be discussed with a clinical member of staff.  The staff do not have to agree to a change in duration length if they feel is it not clinically neccesary.

Cervical Screening Awareness Week
22/01/2019
Cervical Screening Awareness Week
21st - 21th January 2019 is cervical screening awareness week.

If you are aged between 25 and 64 years old you should be eligible for cervical screening. Public health England and the Practice will contact inviting you to the Practice for this free test. This test is an intimate exam and will be performed by a female Nurse.

Cervical screening saves 5,000 lives a year in the UK

If you are feeling anxious beforehand, you can ask a member of your family or friend to accompany you. Your practice nurse or GP will be happy to talk through any anxieties that you have prior to your cervical screening appointment

Cervical screening is NOT a test to find cancer. It is a screening test to detect changes to the cells of the cervix, which are called cervical abnormalities or pre-cancer. Between 90 and 94% of all screening results come back normal, with no abnormalities found. It is important to remember that an abnormal screening result rarely means cancer.

Having regular cervical screening offers the best protection against developing cervical cancer
